People will be allowed to continue to buy and sell property in 2021 during Lockdown 3.0, the Government has confirmed.
The Government announced a new national lockdown in England until mid-February following a rise in coronavirus cases, after several areas around the UK, including London and the South-East of England, were moved into a new level of restrictions over the Christmas period – Tier 4.
The lockdown measures mean that no-one can leave their home except where they have a specific purpose or “reasonable excuse”, such as for work or a medical emergency.
However, residents will still be allowed to buy or sell a property and move home, despite the new restrictions, it has been confirmed.
Commenting in December, the Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick said “the sales and rental markets remain open in all tiers” and “associated activities can continue as before”, providing social distancing guidance is followed.
The Government has now confirmed that:
You can still move home. People outside your household or support bubble should not help with moving house unless absolutely necessary.
Estate and letting agents and removals firms can continue to work. If you are looking to move, you can go to property viewings.
You must follow the national guidance on moving home safely, which includes advice on social distancing, letting fresh air in, and wearing a face covering.
