Ninety new homes are set to be built on the site of an old council block in the borough of Barking and Dagenham.
Sebastian Court in Meadow Road, Barking, will be demolished and replaced with three new mansion blocks, which will boast a mix of shared ownership and affordable rented accommodation, along with a play area and landscaped gardens.
The design of the new homes has been undertaken by award-winning architects, Pollard Thomas Edwards, with build contracted to Jerram Falkus, another award-winner.
Meanwhile, over in Dagenham, 20 new town houses are set for Church Street, with Bell Phillips chosen as the architects to provide the design.
The managing director of Barking and Dagenham’s regeneration company, Be First, said of the new homes: “I am excited to be able to make these appointments, particularly because each of these radically different plans places a similar emphasis on top notch design and practicality.
“Working with architects like these, who understand the borough, we can be certain of building high quality, affordable homes for local people.”
Elsewhere in the borough, a Dagenham school is to receive £10,000 to help boost its green credentials.
St Peter’s Primary School was awarded the grant following an audit as part of the Mayor of London’s drive to tackle air pollution. The audit made a series of recommendations that would help the school become greener. These included replacing parking spaces with a cycle lane and planting hedges to reduce noise and pollution.
The £10,000 will go towards implementing these changes.
Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, said of his campaign: “I’m doing everything in my power to protect children in London from air pollution. It’s a national health crisis that is putting the health of children at risk.”
