The mayor of London has launched a new initiative for London residents which will see 55,000 trees given away to plant in gardens and community spaces.
Residents are now being encouraged by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, to apply for the free trees which can be planted this autumn and winter, including during National Tree Week, which runs from 23 November to 1 December.
The project is being funded by the Woodland Trust and supported by the People’s Postcode Lottery.
Trees in the capital city are thought to provide at least £133 million worth of benefits including removing pollution and carbon dioxide from the air and helping to reduce the risk of flood in the region.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: “Simple steps like planting trees help us as we address the climate and ecological crisis – and I look forward to thousands of new trees being planted across the city during National Tree Week.”
You can apply to enter a ballot to receive a tree at www.london.gov.uk/plant-a-tree with the deadline for applications falling on 11 November.
