Barking and Dagenham has a deserved reputation for affordable properties, according to the latest analysis.
A piece on The London Evening Standard’s Homes and Property website reveals that it is the only borough in all of London where terraced properties make up the majority of sales.
The article notes that the area is regularly registering as having the most reasonable property prices in the capital.
Looking specifically at terraced homes, a typical property is now changing hands for £315,000 – which is less than half the average for the city as a whole.
The borough’s closest rival is Bexley, where an average terraced property will set a buyer back £342,869 (more than £25,000 more than Barking and Dagenham).
Terraced houses have become increasingly popular among families looking for their own home in the capital.
Flats have tended to proliferate in the city in recent years and, indeed, in 18 out of the 33 London boroughs more than half of property sales last year related to apartments.
Unfortunately these dwellings are often too small for couples with children, which is why there is growing interest in more traditional types of property.
